Electrical Safety
Risks of electrical shock, burns, power surges and
power failure

Client organisation is to ensure 5 yearly checks of fixed
electrical systems using a
National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation
Contracting (NICEIC) contractor
·
All equipment with a
plug supplied by the client organisation should be Portable Appliance
Tested (PAT)
·
Photocopiers draw a very heavy electrical load and clients must provide
adequate electrical equipment , wall outlets and associated equipment to
ensure trouble free usage
·
All equipment supplied
by DOS must be plugged directly into the mains supply.
·
Extension leads
MUST NOT be used for installing of
DOS equipment as the electrical integrity is questionable, hence a
suitable electrical wall outlet must be available
·
The equipment supplied
by DOS comes with built in protection from normal power failure.
·
Visual checks by the
client organisations users prior to use of all electrical equipment to
identify possible problems is recommended
All equipment provided by DOS comes with a manufacturers
warranty

If there are problems with establishing a safe electrical
supply because of a faulty earth the client organisation will be
expected to ensure a safe earthing point
·
On rare occasions the DOS Operative may check for a
suitable earthing point.
Client organisations are to consider protection from
power surges e.g. lighting (having a lighting conductor) as equipment
can not be wholly protected from this risk

Fire
Safety
Risk of electrical overheating and fire on clients

DOS will follow the procedures laid down by the client
organisations Fire Risk Assessment

DOS Operative is to be briefed on the client
organisations fire procedures (including alarms, means of escape and
muster points) on entry to the premises

DOS Operative knows how to operate a fire extinguisher
and will only use CO2 or Powder extinguishers for electrical fires
Client organisations are expected to provide either CO2
or Dry Powder extinguishers local to electrical equipment |

loss and corruption of software systems

DOS will not start work until a written or verbal
agreement has been given by the client organisation that all data has
been backed up and / or removed from the system to be altered or

loss or corruption of data left on the system during installation /
upgrades or servicing of equipment |
